Emotional Intelligence Surveys

While coaching and workshops afford substantial learning and behavior change, first using an assessment to identify areas of focused development increases the measurable effectiveness of any development solution.

Leadership Services has researched and utilized several different EI surveys in an effort to provide clients with the most effective surveys being used today in assessing Emotional Intelligence, so that training and coaching can be tailored to create specific desired results. We use two of the leading surveys, the Emotional Intelligence Appraisal™ and the BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory®. Both of these assessments have been developed by experts in psychological assessment, and are supported by extensive research.

Emotional Intelligence Appraisal™

The Emotional Intelligence Appraisal™ authored by Travis Bradberry, Ph.D. and Jean Greaves, Ph.D. measures emotional intelligence (EQ) using four core skills:

  1. Self-awareness
  2. Self-management
  3. Social awareness
  4. Relationship management

These four skills are based upon the model created by Daniel Goleman. This model is a competency-based framework that is intuitive and easy to apply in real-world settings, which makes the Appraisal well-linked to job performance. The first two skills focus on you, and the third and fourth skill focus on your contact with others. Hence, the Appraisal measures personal competence and social competence, focusing ultimately on what you do—how you manage your self and how you manage your relationships.
The EI Appraisal takes just about 10 minutes to complete and it delivers scores for overall EQ and each core skill (above).
The report provides clients with a thorough and specific understanding of their performance in the four core skills as well as goal-setting and planning exercises to help make actionable the test feedback. Activities are job-applied and fun, integrating case studies with historical figures and Hollywood stars.

BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory®

Based on 20 years of research by Dr. Reuven Bar-On, the BarOn EQ-i® and BarOn EQ-i:S™ assessments measure one's self-reported potential to deal with daily environmental demands and pressures, and helps predict one's success in both professional and personal pursuits. The EQ-i® inventory examines an individual’s emotional and social strengths and weaknesses. Once the areas that need improvement have been identified, the client can immediately begin exploring and developing those areas. At the same time, areas where the client excels can be used to his or her full potential to maximize effectiveness in daily tasks.

The Inventory assesses these primary areas (with additional subscales):

  • Intrapersonal
  • Interpersonal
  • Stress Management
  • Adaptability
  • General Mood
  • Positive Impression
  • Inconsistency Index

The BarOn EQ-i® assessment can be used when management or employee development initiatives are being considered or to assist in the recruiting or selection process. You can create a profile of the top performers in your organization to determine what skills are the most valuable to your company in general and/or for particular job functions. This assessment takes about 30 minutes to complete.

There are several different reports available with the The BarOn EQ-i®, including individual development reports, individual to group reports, group to group reports and leadership reports. The individual development report, for example, provides clients with test scores and interpretive text, development strategies and action-oriented tips and interventions.
